Communique - AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Port Stephens Netball Association was held on Monday 11 March 2024.


Consistent with its Constitution a quorum was met.


Members noted apologises from all Life Members except for Dorothy Etheridge, Wendy Thomas, Maxine Creek, Susan Xenos and Jodi Cassar who were in attendance. No other apologises were noted.


Council Members agreed to the following items:

  • confirmation of the previous AGM Minutes

  • adoption of the annual report and audited balance sheet

  • appointment of Auditor - Rees Pritchard Pty Limited

  • appointment of Patron - Wendy Archer AM

  • that the position of Registrar be made redundant and the relevant item of Constitution and / or Policy document be updated to reflect this decision


Awards were presented to the following people in recognition of their contributions to netball in our community.


Life Membership was awarded to Samantha Rumbel, for her sustained outstanding level of support and engagement at Port Stephens Netball Association. In her nomination it was noted that Sam has been an active member of Port Stephens Netball Association for almost 20 years now, taking on various roles within the Association during that time most recently as Representative Convenor.



Service Awards

Service Awards recognised three members of our Association who have all contributed for a sustained period of time at Port Stephens Netball Association assisting to grow various aspects of our game.


Congratulations to:

  • Nadina Marsh - for her contributions to our Representative Netball Program, Nadina has been a Rep Coch for approximately 10 years now, imparting her knowledge of the game to hundreds of young (and older) athletes who participate in the program. Nadina has also been a long-standing Executive Member most recently in the role of Technical Services supporting both coaching and umpire pathways at our Association.


  • Cherie Edwards - has been an active contributor to PSNA before it was an Association having played as part of the Raymond Terrace Netball Club at the Boomerang Park location. Cherie however is better known for her love of umpiring and the development of hundreds of umpires. Cherie efforts are truly recognised for the tremendous efforts she gives. Cherie also supports umpiring and player pathways at Medowie Netball Club.

  • Kerry Whitty - has been part of the PSNA sub committees for more than 15 years now and actively involved in Medowie Netball Club for around 20 years. Kerry has worked tirelessly on Medowie Sports Council to develop better netball facilities in Medowie.


Judy Parker Award

Sadly, in 2023 we lost a beloved Member of our Association in Judy Parker and we agreed to hold an annual award in her name that highlighted the spirit of Judy to the contribution of our game.


The following nominations were highly commended:


  • Pearl Manton - Pearl has gone above an beyond to grow the game of netball within the Karuah community. Karuah Pearls Netball Club provides opportunities for boys and girls to participated in a culturally sensitive and inclusive netball community.

  • Rubyn Ryan - Ruby is not quite yet 18 years old and yet has been a regular contributor to the Terrace Centrals Netball Club since joining the game at 12 years of age. Ruby dived into umpiring, at a young age and has helped develop many other umpires in her Club and the Association. Ruby is also a player and a coach and has a positive spirit towards the game.


Jessica Rumbel was awarded the Judy Parker Award for her contributions to the game. Jess has been contributing to the games as a player and umpire from a very young age (around 8 with a whistle confidently being used Jess is a National Badged Umpire, and Accredited Coach and has used both these skills as an Umpire and Coach as part of our Representative Program. Jess has also been an active Representative Player and actively supports umpires, and players at both Club and Association level to be their best.

President, Jodi Cassar thanked outgoing Executive Members Susan Xenos, Life Member, who has spent around 25 years on our Executive. Justin Ratray who has been part of the Executive or Sub Committees over the last 25 years and to Lydia Peters who has served in more recent years. Their contributions to our game have been enduring.
